The American Civil War ended in 1865. The period that followed was going to be a time of reunification, reform, and physical rebuilding, but legislation was enacted to create a period of division, fear, and oppression. The immediate effects of reconstruction legislation and the birth of Jim Crow will be discussed during this presentation.
