Black Business Month: Leonda Jiggets
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Leonda Jiggetts, owner of The Sweetest Thing, a growing bakery here in the city specializing in unique cookies and cupcakes. I was born and raised in Northside and I'm proud to be a part of the ever growing Richmond experience.
From sun up to sun down, what’s your ideal day in RVA?
My ideal day would start with an early morning in the kitchen baking banana pudding cookies. Then head down to JuiceLife to check-in on my friends and grab a cold-pressed juice to accompany me on a walk along the flood wall. After working up an appetite, I'd swing by Sidewalk Cafe for brunch and roam the fan a little before checking out the most recent exhibit at the VMFA. Before heading to dinner at Lillie Pearl, I would head home for a nap, and wrap up my day in Shockoe Bottom where there's bound to be a Night Market or silent headphone party.

What would you say is Richmond’s best-kept secret?
Honestly, Richmond as a whole. You often hear people claim that there's nothing to do, but there's always something going on especially in the spring/summer. Everything from endless restaurants to check-out, a variety of festivals, and incredibly scenic walking paths.

BLK RVA is all about supporting the thriving Black businesses and culture in the Richmond region and encouraging tourists to do the same. What’s one thing every visitor MUST do/see when they come to our region. You have got to go see the Rumors of War statue! I was there for the unveiling, and can't help but to stop and admire the statue every time I pass the VMFA.

Where do you live? What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re staying close to home? Northside, which means I'm minutes from Downtown, Jackson Ward, The Fan, and Scott's Addition. My location affords me the chance to explore.
