Community Fridges: Taylor Scott

Tell us a little about yourself and your business:
Taylor Scott Founder of RVA Community Fridges. Prior to starting RVACF, I worked in a Covid-19 Lab overnight, and have hopes of soon working with Americorps within Richmond’s Community Gardens.

What is your connection to Richmond?
I have only been in Richmond going on my 5th year. I moved to Richmond from New Orleans Louisiana to go to VCU and graduated in December of 2019.

What led to the start of your initiative?
I started the community Fridges after having the first harvest of my homegrown hydroponic veggies and produce. I wanted to be able to supply the community with at minimum the goods I was growing, and now we have flourished and are partnering with many local businesses, cafes, and community gardens to keep the fridges stocked throughout the weeks.

What does BLK RVA mean to you?
BLK RVA to me means not only being part of a the Richmond community, but being a member of a more intimate group, the Black community, within the city that uplifts and supports one another.

What’s something about your business that most don’t know, but should?
I feel most people may think that they have to get in contact with us to drop off/prepare goods to go into the fridges, and really as long as people stick within the guidelines we have set up on our social media and fridges then anyone can go, take what they need and give what they can from the fridges 24/7!
