Thinking of nominating an outstanding organization, business, or individual? Or perhaps yourself? Find all the info you need on eligibility below.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Businesses/Initiatives/Programs: 

  • Businesses: Nominations are open to Black-owned and operated tourism-related businesses within the Richmond Region, which includes the City of Richmond, Chesterfield County, Colonial Heights, Hanover County, Henrico County, New Kent County, and the town of Ashland.

  • Initiatives: Nominations are open to initiatives demonstrating a commitment to promoting Black culture, heritage, and tourism in the Richmond Region. These initiatives may include cultural festivals, heritage tours, educational programs, and community outreach efforts that contribute to advancing and celebrating Black heritage and tourism.

  • Programs: Nominations are open to programs that have made significant contributions to promoting and preserving Black culture, heritage, and tourism in the Richmond Region. These programs may include educational workshops, community/arts programs, entertainment series, and other initiatives that engage the community and celebrate Black culture.

Individuals

  • Community Leaders: Individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and commitment to improving the Richmond community through one or more of the four BLK RVA pillars.

  • Community Influencers: Individuals who have a significant, positive impact on the community through social media, public speaking, activism, or other forms of influence.

Nomination Form & Process

Submit Your Nominations

Submission Method: Nominations for all BLK RVA awards must be submitted online through the official nomination platform available at visitblkrva.com/awards.

Nomination Period: Nominations will be accepted from June 17 to July 7, 2024.

Verification: All nominations will be subject to verification by the Richmond Region Tourism Foundation or designee to ensure that the nominated businesses meet the eligibility criteria.


 
 

General Information

Submit Your Nominations

Multiple Nominations: Nominators are allowed to submit multiple nominations for different Black-owned businesses, community leaders, or influencers. However, each nominee can only be nominated once per award category.

Self-Nominations: Individuals and businesses can self-nominate once per award.

Duplicate Nominations: If  the same individual or business is nominated multiple times by the same nominator, only the initial submission will be considered. Duplicate nominations will be deemed void.

False Information: Any nominations that contain false or misleading information will be disqualified.

Nomination Review: The decision of the Richmond Region Tourism (RRT) staff regarding the eligibility of nominated businesses is final.

Notification: All nominees will be notified via email.

Acknowledgment included on submission form: By submitting a nomination form, each nominator agrees to abide by the rules and guidelines listed on the the BLK RVA Community Awards site. Nominations that do not comply with the rules may be disqualified at the discretion of the Richmond Region Tourism Foundation.

Public Voting Guidelines

Submit Your Nominations

For the Community Awards category, the selected nominees will advance to the public voting round. Awards include: Rooted Community Impact Award and Rising Community Impact Award

SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA: 

Nomination Tally: The number of nominations received for each nominee will be tallied by the online voting tool.

Top Nominees: The top nominees with the highest number of nominations for each Community award will be selected to advance to the public voting round.  

PUBLIC VOTING:

During the voting period, the public will be able to vote for their preferred nominee among the top 10 finalists via the BLK RVA Community Awards website.

Timeline: Public voting begins on July 15, 2024 at 12:01am and ends on July 30, 2024 at 11:59pm.

Casting Votes: Individuals can vote online through the official voting platform. The number of times a person can vote is not limited, allowing participants to support their favorite nominees by voting as frequently as they wish.

TRANSPARENCY:

Fairness: This selection process ensures fairness and transparency in determining the finalists for the public voting round.

Results Announcement: The finalists advancing to the public voting round will be announced publicly on the BLK RVA Community Awards website, through official communications channels, and via email.
